On August 23, 2007, the Private Security and Investigative Services Act came into effect in Ontario. The Act requires that security personnel be licensed. As part of the licensing requirements, security personnel and private investigators will be required to have yearly training in the areas of legal awareness, offences, behaviour management, handcuffing (if carried), searching and baton (if carried).
